Taking Stock

Evaluating Risk

There’s no sugar-coating what we’ve all been through in the past year. But this is a good time to take stock.

As I write this, Joe Biden has been inaugurated. The Trump years are behind us. We are in the final painful episode of the pandemic.

Do you have your health? Family safe?

Even though we’re financial advisors, Barb and I don’t live and breathe each bump in the markets. Still, after all this – when no one could’ve imagine the obstacles in our path – we’d be sitting here with the Dow Jones in record-breaking territory, having climbed 2,500 points between January 1, 2020 through to January 1, 2021. During that same period, the TSE increased by about 1,000 points, closing at about 18,000.

What that means is you can go back to worrying about the things that matter most – the people you care about. Their physical and emotional health in the face of this crisis.

And there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. We’re bracing ourselves for explosive growth in the second half of the year.

Then our attention will be turned to issues like: is that growth sustainable? Does it become inflationary? Are the right controls in place?

The cycle continues. It’s certainly been an economic cycle unlike what anyone has seen.

Taking stock gives us all a chance to take a deep breath. We’ve made it this far together.

All the Best – for a safe and happier 2021.

Thanks,

Eric
